Traveling Abroad: Berlin, Munich, and Hanover

To the Best Memories of My Life

Hi Y'all!

After my Junior Year ended, I had the opportunity to travel abroad for ten days in Germany. We went to three cities: Berlin, Munich, and Hanover, in TEN DAYS! Throughout my entire trip there I was completely astonished by this county's beauty. I love the way Germany operates, the people I got to enjoy it with, the food, the scenery and most importantly... the BEER! Following are just a couple of my favorite things! Enjoy :)

1. The People!
Meaning the people I got to enjoy Germany and indulge with for the last ten days. They were nothing short of AMAZING. I had to opportunity to meet people from the U.S. and from Germany that I truly never would have met if I wasn't given the opportunity to go on this trip. We became so close in ten days that even I didn't know it was possible to care about people that strongly after such a short amount of time.
The German students that were in charge of planning and coordinating our trip were spectacular! Anything we needed at anytime, they were there. They took us around all three cities, catering to us and pretty much our every need. I know I don't speak for only myself when I say I am more than grateful and thankful for these six ladies and gents. I was so emotional leaving them knowing that it will be awhile before we have the chance to reconnect. Although... it truly warms my heart knowing I have such sweet, loving people across the world who would give up anything to welcome me back to their country. And with that, I know I will absolutely return to the beautiful country of Germany the second I get the chance to.

2. The Country: and all it offers!
I don't know about you, but when I think of Germany two things come to mind: meat and beer! With that being said, that is not all that I indulged in. In each city, there were so many options and opportunities to try new and delicious things! Germany gave me more than I ever expected.

- A grand appreciation for public transportation in all forms! Everywhere we went was about a walk, bus ride, train ride, tram ride, hop and a skip away. Okay, that's dramatic.. but overall we took public transportation more than I ever have before. Where I am from, public transportation is only needed in certain areas and to those that don't have access to a vehicle. Other than that, everyone drives pretty much everywhere. I can tell you without a doubt that we walked an AVERAGE of eleven miles a day even with all the public transportation available to us.
- Vintage bicycles! And when I say vintage they are actually new bikes styled like the old ones. So many people rode bikes over there and so many had cute little baskets on them... A DREAM BICYCLE! :)
- FOOD FOOD FOOD!! Here in America, we have good food and we even have great food. But in Germany, everything is so refreshing and delicious! It just tastes like they put so much effort into cooking it... if that doesn't sound weird! Think about how hard it is to make a home-cooked meal and then imagine doing that all the time... that's what this food is. To describe their food in one word, I would say it is genuine.
- The rural areas. Although we did stay in three cities, we had the chance to take a train into more rural areas of Germany and really see its beauty. I got to see the Alps, a fox, many many many cows and goats, and just the beautiful green land! Everything seemed so alive in Germany!

I truly don't think there was one thing in Germany or about Germany that I did not like. I cannot thank my faculty at school enough for giving me this opportunity. I will forever remember the people I met, the sites I saw, and every bit of happiness that came with being in the beautiful country of Germany.

Until next time Germany...because there will be a next time!

With much much love,

Gail
